Douglas Police Officers Build Connections Across Cochise County
The Douglas Police Department prioritizes fostering positive relationships within the community, extending its service beyond traditional law enforcement duties. Recently, officers and staff engaged actively in various back-to-school events throughout Cochise County to promote familiarity and trust among residents.
At the Bisbee Back-to-School Event, Community Officer Lopez, Officer Cuevas, and Dispatcher Gastelum collaborated with local partners to assist students and families from Bisbee and Naco. This event provided a relaxed setting for the department to interact with children and their families, strengthening community ties. The police department expressed enthusiasm for participating in future events, emphasizing their commitment to community engagement.
Closer to home, the Douglas Care Fair attracted over 1,500 children, and Community Officer Lopez and Officer Cuevas distributed school supplies such as notebooks and pencils. Such interactions allow our officers to be seen as approachable figures rather than just enforcers. These connections help our children view police officers as neighbors and partners, rather than as figures to be feared. The department celebrated the event’s success and pledged to continue this annual tradition.
The department's outreach continued with participation in Huachuca National Night Out, where Officer Lopez and Detention Officer Samaniego connected with attendees in a friendly environment. Events like these foster open dialogue and relationship-building among families and officers. The officers also participated in the Benson National Night Out, appreciating the opportunity to engage with community partners and create memorable experiences for children.
These events highlight that community service involves everyone in the police department, not just those in uniform.
